Sending HTMl URL data to HTML form without php

0

I am not using php, just offline htmls.

Below is my code, I enter a number into the input field. The compute() function simply adds 6 to the number and shows the output.

<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<title> Addition HTML</title>
</head>
<body>
<form action="javascript:compute();" method="get">
Please enter the value to add: <input id="variable" name="var">
<input type="submit" value="compute">
<br><br>
The sum is <input id="sum" type="text" disabled>
</form>
</body>
<script>
function compute()
{
document.getElementById('sum').value = 6 + parseInt(document.getElementById('variable').value);
}
</script>
</html>

I want to be be able to concatenate a data value to the URL so that it pre-populates and calculates the value.

So, when I go to the URL :

file:///home/daniel/Documents/addition.html?&var=5

The resultant should look like this,

enter image description here

Preferably,if is this could be done without using a custom-made string filter like this or this

I tried this method but it doesn't seem to work
