I am trying to solve and algebraic expression of form f(x)=a
.
Where I already know the value of a
now I want to find out value for x
.
One of the API which I tried is exp4j
but I can only find the value of function if I provide the value for x
. Not sure if reverse if possible with that exp4j
For Example:
I have: x*1/40+5=12
Now I want to solve for x
like below:
x=(12-5)*40
x=280
How do I solve this in Java where a string like this x*1/40+5=12
is taken as input and gives out value for x
.

Try google for: "symbolic calculi solver"

Try looking at logic programming languages. Take a look at Prolog. There are a few popular java integrations or similar language integrations.
