Increment variable on non-unique partition value combinations
I am working in redshift sql. As shown in the mockup screenshot, I need to increment a variable so that it increments each time it passes row-wise over a change in the variable 1 value, partitioned on the index variable. In the screenshot, the outcome I'm trying for is the "Desired Variable" column. I've tried with dense_rank & various window functions for a while w/o success. Thanks for any advice.
Example: I want to create a new variable "Desired Variable", that increments each time it passes over a change in variable 1, and restarts the incrementing partitioned on the index variable.
