How to install npm packages and save the version as *
I have a project that installs many other projects and creates documentation for them. It should always install the latest version so I have the following script:
"scripts":{
"prebuild-release": "npm install && npm update",
"build-release": "do magic stuff here"
}
and dependecies are defined as:
"dependendencies": {
"my-project-name": "*"
}
This ensures that we always get the latest version.
The problem I have that when installing a new dependency:
npm install my-new-project@latest -E
npm install my-new-project@* -E
npm install my-new-project -E
npm install my-new-project
I always get a version number in the dependencies:
"dependendencies": {
"my-project-name": "1.2.3"
}
Is there a way of installing a package and automatically getting *
in the package.json without having to edit it manually?
Thanks
npm npm-install
