Java Publisher Subscriber Design Pattern
Overview:
I am working on Java with Spring framework 4, one component of our application pulls some data in memory from db when the server is started. The other component inserts new data in db when required.
Problem Statement:
When data is inserted to db via second component, I want first component to know it so that it can refresh and update memory with newly updated data in db.
After googling a bit, I learned several approaches, but I am quite confused on what to choose. I am new to Java, in python we were able to execute this swiftly.
So, my question is there any library/framework in java which can do this swiftly?

You can use Observer design pattern for this.
Your ComponentA will have to register with ComponentB to be notified for an event when ComponentB performs any DB insert operation.
Start with the interface DBInsertListener
which every class, that needs to be notified for the insert event in ComponentB, needs to implement.
public interface DBInsertListener
{
void process();
}
Now let the ComponentA which implements DBInsertListener
register with ComponentB to be notified for any insert event.
public class ComponentA implements DBInsertListener
{
public void process() {
//your code here.
}
public ComponentA(final ComponentB componentB) {
componentB.registerToListenEvent(this);
}
}
At last, your ComponentB needs to provide a method for every DBInsertListener
to register for listening to the insert event. It also needs to notify all the registered listeners when there is an insert operation.
public class ComponentB
{
List<DBInsertListener> dbInsertListeners = new ArrayList<>();
public void registerToListenEvent(final DBInsertListener dbInsertListener)
{
this.dbInsertListeners.add(dbInsertListener);
}
public void dbInsert()
{
//your code to insert data.
raiseEvent();
}
private void raiseEvent()
{
for (DBInsertListener dbInsertListener : dbInsertListeners)
{
dbInsertListener.process();
}
}
}
Hope this helps.

You can use Observer design pattern for this.
Your ComponentA will have to register with ComponentB to be notified for an event when ComponentB performs any DB insert operation.
Start with the interface DBInsertListener
which every class, that needs to be notified for the insert event in ComponentB, needs to implement.
public interface DBInsertListener
{
void process();
}
Now let the ComponentA which implements DBInsertListener
register with ComponentB to be notified for any insert event.
public class ComponentA implements DBInsertListener
{
public void process() {
//your code here.
}
public ComponentA(final ComponentB componentB) {
componentB.registerToListenEvent(this);
}
}
At last, your ComponentB needs to provide a method for every DBInsertListener
to register for listening to the insert event. It also needs to notify all the registered listeners when there is an insert operation.
public class ComponentB
{
List<DBInsertListener> dbInsertListeners = new ArrayList<>();
public void registerToListenEvent(final DBInsertListener dbInsertListener)
{
this.dbInsertListeners.add(dbInsertListener);
}
public void dbInsert()
{
//your code to insert data.
raiseEvent();
}
private void raiseEvent()
{
for (DBInsertListener dbInsertListener : dbInsertListeners)
{
dbInsertListener.process();
}
}
}
Hope this helps.
