how to add a changed path var to current users .bashrc with script

0

I've tried to figure out a bash function to add a path variable to current users .bashrc and can't find the issue. Perhaps someone can help.

appendpath(){

if grep -Fxq "PATH=/var/www/html/bin/:$PATH" /home/"$LOGNAME"/.bashrc
;

then
echo " "
else
sudo cat <<'EOF3' >> /home/"$LOGNAME"/.bashrc
PATH=/var/www/html/bin/:$PATH
EOF3
fi
}
