Why jhipster-registry.xml is generated for both gateway app and micro service app?

I have created two applications using JHipster: one is Gateway and another one is Micro service for Docker. Both application has Jhipster-registry.xml and referred in app.yml. If my understanding is right, only Gateway application should have Jhipster-registry.xml and should be included in app.yml. Micro services app should just go and register with above said gateway app. Where am I going wrong in this understanding?
