magento 2.2.5 “Catalog Input Type for Store Owner” disabled for attribute created via Attribute Interface

0

I've successfully created a new attribute using the Attribute interface, but when I go and check my attribute in magento backend, the "Catalog Input Type for Store Owner" dropdown is greyed out. If I create the attribute from backend, the dropdown is not disabled so the user can change the type anytime he wants.

That's the code that creates the attribute with the disabled dropdown:

$attribute = $this->_attributeInterface; // MagentoEavApiDataAttributeInterface
$attribute->setEntityTypeId(4);
$attribute->setIsUserDefined(1);
$attribute->setAttributeCode($newAttribute);
$attribute->setDefaultFrontendLabel(strtolower($newAttribute));
$attribute->setFrontendInput('text');
$attribute->setBackendType('varchar');
$attribute->setScope("global");
$attribute->setIsRequired(false);
$attribute->setIsUnique(false);
$attribute->setIsSearchable(false);
$attribute->setIsComparable(false);
$attribute->setIsVisibleOnFront(true);
$attribute->setIsFilterable(false);
$attribute->setUsedInProductListing(false);
$attribute->setIsVisible(true); // ?
// MagentoEavApiAttributeRepositoryInterface
$this->_attributeRepositoryInterface->save($attribute);

The code I was using with magento 2.1 is this:

$newattribute = $eavsetup->addAttribute('catalog_product', $attributecode, [
'type' => $type,
'backend' => '',
'frontend' => '',
'label' => $label,
'input' => $input,
'class' => '',
'source' => '',
'global' => $scope,
'visible' => true,
'required' => false,
'user_defined' => true,
'default' => '',
'searchable' => false,
'filterable' => false,
'comparable' => false,
'visible_on_front' => true,
'used_in_product_listing' => false,
'unique' => false,
//'apply_to' => ''
]);

With this code, the attribute created has the "Catalog Input Type for Store Owner" drowpdown NOT greyed out so the previous version works perfectly. I need to switch from the previous version that calls the model directly to the new code that uses interfaces and repository. I cannot switch, though, until the dropdown displays correctly.

Anyone knows how to solve this?
