Attaching properties to files in BaseX

I have gone through the BaseX documentation, however, i could not find if it is possible to attach some custom properties to the XML files and query the files based on the properties. For example, is it possible to attach a property called 'category' to an XML file (not as part of the XML file but perhaps at the storage level) and query for files with a specific value of the property. There could be workarounds but does BaseX support attaching some external properties to an XML file during storage.
