チェルトナムゴールドカップ








チェルトナムゴールドカップチェイス（Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase）とは、毎年3月にイギリスのチェルトナム競馬場で行われている競馬の障害競走である。格付けはG1（グレード1）。4日間で20万人が観戦する大イベント・チェルトナムフェスティバルのメインレースである。出走条件は5歳以上。斤量は5歳馬が11ストーン（約70kg）、6歳以上は11ストーン10ポンド（約74.5kg）、牝馬は7ポンド（約3kg）減。距離は3マイル2ハロン70ヤード（約5331m）、障害数は22、賞金総額は47万5000ポンドである。


創設は1924年。イギリスのスティープルチェイスは他にグランドナショナルが特に有名であり、初期はグランドナショナルの前哨戦と見られていた時期もあった。ハンデキャップ競走であるグランドナショナルに対して、定量の長距離チェイスとして戦後にその地位を向上させ、独立した最高峰のレースの1つとして認められることになった。なおグランドナショナル、チェルトナムゴールドカップを同一年度に制した馬は、1934年のゴールデンミラーのみであり、この馬は1932年から1936年にかけチェルトナムゴールドカップを5連覇した。
