permissions.query for notifications returns incorrect value when called from an iframe

0

Say I have a website on one domain: a.example.com

I want to check if the current web Client has granted notifications permissions on another domain, say b.example.com

I've been doing that till now using an Iframe (cross-origin iframe) to a specific page on b.example.com that runs the following permissions query:

return navigator.permissions.query({ name: 'notifications' })
.then((result) => {
return result.state;
});

The above code was working just fine in an Iframe until now, and I'm not sure why result.state always returns "prompt", even if the Client has already granted permissions.

But, if call Notification.permission it shows "granted".

Worth mentioning, if I call navigator.permissions.query({name:'notifications'}) on b.example.com (without the iframe, in browser's console) it return "granted".

What am I missing here?

[I've been using Chrome Version 71.0.3578.98 for that example]

UPDATE 1

It seems like navigator.permissions.query returns the value from a.example.com (the top-level domain) instead of b.example.com but Notification.permission returns the value of b.example.com??

Is that a new behaviour of the api or am I missing something?
