How to create a dyadic matrix from a data frame

0

My input is like this

individual_id         <- c(1:5)
individual_age <- c(23,22,24,21,18)
individual_test <-data.frame(cbind(individual_id,individual_age))
class(individual_test)
dyadic_individual_age <-array(0,c(5,5))

And this is the way I made matrix simply by for loop.

for (i in 1:5){
for (j in 1:5)
{dyadic_individual_age[i,j]=abs(individual_test$individual_age[i] -individual_test$individual_age[j])
}
}

But I know this structure is not efficient in large-scale problems. Please advise what to do.
