Can Selenium perform integration tests of HTML responses like MvcIntegrationTestFramework?

0

I would like to run 'deep' integration tests that would require either 1) multi-tiered mocking of the controller/ context or 2) mocking of the response or 3) whole hogged UI tests.

Since the answer to my question about testing controller extension methods would only report whether the mocked method is 'hit' and gives no further assert-able content in the controller response.

I bring this question back to life about MvcIntegrationTestFramework, but now at the beginning of 2019 are there integration test framework alternatives? Why is that framework so infrequently used? Can Selenium can perform non-browser specific tests on HTML responses?
