Redefine Variable if not defined already (CAS maxima)
$begingroup$
I am using Maxima in a web application for user generated mathematial content.
We usually generate random input variables and calculate the output, but now want to enable the user to define their own input and make the CAS to calculate the output.
At the moment we use something like (maxima-code):
a:random(1000);
b:a^2;
however, we now want to enable the user to define the value of "a" and if it isn't defined use the random number. So something like this (maxima-like-pseudocode)
a_in:123;
a:ifnull(a_in,random(1000));
b:a^2
Where a_in
is the user-input and might as well be not defined (null) or not existant at all.
Is something like this possible with maxima?
