Regenerate Master.key Rails 5.2

0

I'm trying to regenerate my master.key from an old git repository I downloaded (the master.key obviously did not get downloaded due to gitignore). How do I regenerate the key? I've tried bin/rails credentials:edit and I get the following error:

bin/rails credentials:edit
No $EDITOR to open file in. Assign one like this:

EDITOR="mate --wait" bin/rails credentials:edit

For editors that fork and exit immediately, it's important to pass a wait flag,
otherwise the credentials will be saved immediately with no chance to edit.

When I run: EDITOR=VS CODE --wait rails credentials:edit

An empty rails file opens up along with a credentials:edit file. Any help in regenerating a lost master key?

  • rails credentials:help => "Don't lose this master key! Put it in a password manager your team can access. Should you lose it no one, including you, will be able to access any encrypted credentials." Best of luck, but I'm not sure you can get it back.
