Can we split DataNode and NodeManager in hadoop to run on separate machines?

0

Just wanted to segregate the instances from the cost perspective and split the cloud instances based on VMs which can take in disks and other sets of VMs which can be scaled with respect to memory and compute.

Might be crazy idea as I am talking of taking the secret sauce of hadoop away(i.e, ur compute is delegated to where the data resides) but in cloud when we go with persistent disks this is what happens and the VM's and Storage is physically apart.
