This is quite subjective. What usually works is you start reading the book and then realize what you need to catch up with.

@ Pedro Yes..Sure. I was actually finding a lot of things difficult to grasp and was thinking of reading another book before going into this. I am comfortable with fundamental groups, Homology and maybe Cohomology.

The preface of Cohomology Operation gives a good overview of what the reader should be comfortable with. Also, at the end of each chapter is listed a set of references ranging from specific to general. You would do well to follow these up.
