update specific field inside list in mongo
I have a simple document, that have a field called branches
with list of documents in it:
{
"_id": ObjectId("5c2b708c654ffe9fe901ab2c"),
"country": "GB",
"branches": [
{
"branchName": "Hilton Hotel",
"branchAddress": "Bla Bla Bla"
},
{
"branchName": null,
"branchAddress": "Some address"
}
]
}
you can see that in one of the branches there is "branchName": null,
, I wanted to run this to clean all the null values:
db.myCollections.find("branches.branchName": null).forEach(function(el){
el.branchName = "NoBranchName"
db.myCollections.save(el)
})
but this will only work in case of normal field, not a filed that is part of a list, what could I do in this case?
mongodb

You can use $out
aggregation to filter out all the null
values inside the branches
array
db.collection.aggregate([
{ "$addFields": {
"branches": {
"$filter": {
"input": "$branches",
"as": "branch",
"cond": { "$ne": ["$$branch.branchName", null] }
}
}
}},
{ "$out": "new_collection_name" }
])
