Hibernate: Is it possible to add a @Cascade annotation in an Entity subclass by overriding a getter?
I'm trying to add a @Cascade
annotation to a getter in a Hibernate entity that's a subclass of a parent class that is a @MappedSuperclass
. The child class getter is overriding a getter that's already been defined and annotated in the parent class. My classes look something like this:
@MappedSuperclass
public abstract class ParentEntity {
private List<OtherEntity> others;
@OneToMany(mappedBy = "other")
public List<OtherEntity> getOthers() {
return this.others;
}
}
@Entity
public class ChildEntity extends ParentEntity {
// Trying to add @Cascade here but it doesn't work
@Cascade({CascadeType.SAVE_UPDATE, CascadeType.PERSIST, CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.DETACH})
@Override
public List<OtherEntity> getOthers() {
return super.getOthers();
}
}
@Entity
public class OtherEntity extends OtherParentEntity {
// Other stuff
}
I don't have any control over the base class so I can't modify it. If I put the @Cascade
annotation on the base class getter it works as expected, but trying to get it to work by adding it to the subclass getter has so far have been unsuccessful and saves don't cascade. Am I doing something wrong or is adding additional annotations this way simply not possible?
